Maggie Flynn is a Toronto based artist, curator and community arts practitioner. She completed a BFA at York University with a certificate in Community Arts Practice.
As an artist Maggie Flynn works mostly in performance and installation. Exhibition highlights include her work with One Off Collective which was selected as one of the Open Call Projects for Nuit Blanche 2009. Recent exhibition credits include being featured in group and collective shows at such venues as Board of Directors, XPACE, and the Toronto Free Gallery as well as a solo show at the Special Projects Gallery at York University. Upcoming projects include a performance for The Rhubarb Festival in February 2011.
In her practice as a community artist, Maggie has worked with a number of different organizations including Winters Community Art Club, TheatrePeace, Working Women Community Centres, and the Art Gallery of York University's education program, Power Tool Drag Racing. She had the opportunity to take her practice to El Salvador in 2008 when she worked with the Centro de Intercambio y Solidaridad. There she worked through popular education methods to do design, marketing and sewing workshops with women's small businesses.
Maggie worked as Curator of Eleanor Winters Art Gallery at York University for two years. Independently, she coordinated a workshop series and blog titled What the flip is a curator anyways? She also recently coordinated the symposium Performing Feminist Culture at XPACE Cultural Centre.
